1. cho


The equative construction:
  • Tha mi cho sgìth ri seann chù. (I am as tired as an old dog.)
  • Tha Anna cho làidir ri Iain. (Anna is as strong as John.)
  • Tha Màiri cho seòlta ri sionnach. (Mary is as cunning as a fox.)

Without the ri complement:
  • Tha an latha cho brèagha. (The day is so beautiful.)
  • Tha e cho fuar. (It is so cold.)
  • Tha a' chlann cho modhail. (The children are so well behaved.)

In a question meaning "how":
  • Dè cho feumail 's a tha foghlam Gàidhlig? (How useful is Gaelic education?)

Tha an samhradh fìor thioram air droch bhuaidh a thoirt air cho mòr agus fallain ‘s a tha stoc. (The very dry summer has had a negative effect on the size and health of livestock.);


Nach bochd nach robh muinntir na Gàidhlig fhéin cho measail oirre 's a tha na ceudan nach d' fhuair i ri 'n òige ach a tha dèanamh cruaidh spàirn gus a togail! (Isn't it a pity that the Gaelic people themselves weren't as fond of it as the hundreds who didn't get it in their youth but who are struggling hard to pick it up!)


2. Directional adverbs


Thigeadh i a-nuas an staidhre. (She would come down the stairs.) i.e. down from upstairs to here.
Chaidh i a-steach do bhùth sheudan. (She went into a jewellery shop.)
Tha an naidheachd seo dìreach air tighinn a-steach. (This report has just come in);
Fhuair mi a-steach dhan cholaisde. (I got into college);

Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil iad a-staigh. (I hope that they are in.)

3. dìreach


Tha an naidheachd seo dìreach air tighinn a-steach. (This report has just come in);

4. idir


Chan eil e air a ghoirteachadh gu dona idir. (He is not badly injured at all.)

5. fhathast


Cha deach an fheadhainn a bha san tubaist ainmeachadh fhathast. (The victims of the accident have not been named yet.);
Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil a' bhùth fosgailte fhathast. (I hope that the shop is still open.);

6. a h-uile


Tha sinn an dòchas gu bheil a h-uile duine gu math.(We hope that everyone is well.);
