The aims of
include, but are not restricted to, the following:
to collaboratively author a free, comprehensive descriptive grammar of contemporary Gaelic, including sociolinguistic information (dialectal, historical and register variation).
where grammatical/lexical/orthographical variation exists, to consensually formulate clear, principled guidelines as to what should constitute "standard formal Gaelic", for use in official situations.
to create a "community of practice" for both Gaelic language professionals working in fields such as broadcasting, publishing, education, academia and government, and for Gaelic learners and enthusiasts - a space where they can come together to share and develop their practice, and to simultaneously make a valuable contribution to Gaelic revitalisation.
to inform and support the work of an official, independent
Gaelic Language Academy
is run by Glasgow University's
Celtic and Gaelic
department, in collaboration with the
